If your Leadership isn’t leading, then who is?

Here are three of my favorite points on Leadership, all from Peter Drucker.

“Leadership is not magnetic personality-that can just as well be a glib tongue. It is not ‘making friends and influencing people’-that is flattery. Leadership is lifting a person’s vision to higher sights, the raising of a person’s performance to a higher standard, the building of a personality beyond its normal limitations.”

– It takes some real intelligence to give someone the support and inspiration to take their game to the next level.

“So much of what we call management consists in making it difficult for people to work.”

– In other words, get out of people’s way and let them do their job. Most people are painfully aware of how difficult the times are, and just appreciate some support in getting their job done.

“The most important thing in communication is to hear what isn’t being said.”

– That takes really listening, not just waiting for someone to stop talking while you plan your response.

So putting all three together-inspire new levels of taking action, get out of the way and let them run with the ball, and offer support through really listening-now that’s great leadership!
