How to Separate the Producers from the Pretenders

by Mel Kleiman, Guest Author

If you are looking to hire producers, look for these four traits:

1. They don’t let anything stop them from being successful.
2. They look for things that need fixing and love solving problems.
3. They have talent, i.e., the ability to learn new skills, systems, and procedures to solve the problems they find.
4. They thrive on challenges and growth opportunities.

So, ask job applicants about the obstacles they’ve had to overcome and the problems they’ve solved.

Ask them about the last thing they learned, why they learned it, and what they did with the learning.

And, ask what kinds of challenges their present employer faces and what solutions they’d suggest.
