Are you ready to discover the 2 challenges to seriously great employee performance?
I’m going to give you two tips to make the day-to-day operations of your business a ton easier and more productive.
Once you have these two things working for you in your business you’ll have a business culture that drive continuous growth and success. It will also give you the kind of freedom you really deserve to have as a business owner.
Let’s get into it.
Challenge #1: Un-coachable Employees
Over the years, I have seen many business owners struggling with employees who have un-coachable behaviors and they do not realize they are dealing with a level of dysfunction that is unfixable.
Does this sound like you?
Maybe you get sucked into trying to keep the employee around because it seems like it’s the right thing to do, yet the longer you hold off on firing the employee, the worse their productivity is and the more you seem to just tolerate it.
Sound familiar?
Not only is this really frustrating, it’s also damaging and expensive to your business.
Here’s the solution…
Only Hire and Keep Coachable Employees.
The best example I can think of for this is Steven Curry, one of the hottest basketball stars in the NBA and a player for the Golden State Warriors.
Do you think he’s coachable? You bet he is!
Maybe you’re wondering and asking yourself, what does being coachable actually look like?
Let’s break it down:
When someone is coachable, the coach says do this and they do it. No argument.
A coachable person is also committed to making the coach right.
A coachable person is also responsible for making sure their own execution is accurate. In the case of Steven Curry, he practices what the coach says to do over and over again until he got his skill sets down perfectly.
So how does this look in your business and with your employees?
Coachable behavior in your business can look like you employees asking you for help on a particular specific situation.
They take responsibility for their own education and come to you asking for coaching on something.
Then your employee’s practice what you offer with a commitment to having it work.
Isn’t this the kind of behavior you really want from your employees?
You deserve it and it is key to you having a highly successful and profitable business.
Challenge #2: Disengaged and Unmotivated Employees
Have you ever had a situation where you had a loyal employee who has been with you for years, they were trained and knew how to do their job yet, their productivity was really low?
How can you get this person to increase their productivity?
Here’s the solution…
Make Them Accountable.
Real accountability is another way of saying, get their buy in.
Let me make this plain and simple because this is a powerful tool to help your employees get focused.
Give them a choice to make.
This is critically important because real accountability is a personal choice. It’s not you forcing them to complete a task.
If you are forcing people to do things, your productivity will always be low over the long-term.
But when you give your employees a choice and get their buy in, they will jump through hoops to hit the goals because they feel that were part of the decision making process.
When you can get their buy in, they will have more trust and respect for you because you have trust and respect for them by asking for their buy in.
This is the difference between being a boss and a leader. That’s a whole topic in and of itself.
The problem is too many business owners don’t get their employees buy in and/or they assume the employee has already made a choice.
When this happens your employees feel burdened with choice they didn’t make and they start to resent and resist you.
This then leads to a situation where you feel like you have to push them harder to get anything done.
Sound familiar?
I don’t want this for you.
This is why I want you to get your employees to buy in to what needs to happen in your business.
I have never encountered an employee who when given a choice didn’t choose their own accountabilities.
Give people a choice to choose their own accountabilities and they will step up to meet their expectations every time.
In fact, when given the choice, you will be surprised at how willing your employees are to take on whatever accountabilities they need to make things work for everyone.
