Sometimes called the shadow contribution, this is a very difficult thing for owners to see and measure. However, every organization is built, guided, and under the influence of the leadership. You can see patterns that emerge in an organization which, if viewed through time, reveal tendencies generally following the personality and character of the leadership.
We’re all creatures of habit, so here are some actions that can become habits producing empowering leadership.
- Spend more time acknowledging what works than acknowledging what doesn’t
- Spend time every day coaching and training others
- Read something inspiring and share it with your company
And maybe, most importantly, when asked for your help to solve a critical issue or customer complaint, at least first ask the responsible party how they would handle it.
